Starting in Summer 2006, Camp Lake Stephens established its Adventure Camp program with trips to the Ocoee River. Since then, our program has steadily grown; our summer camp schedule for 2012 includes six trips, our largest offering ever. Adventure Camps have finally become more adventuresome and rustic. due to the addition of our Treehouses, which will host the Adventure Camp program throughout the summer. Our Treehouses, now in their fifth summer are located by our lake, and our Adventure camps will reside there when they are not traveling off-campus.
The mission of Adventure Camp is to provide campers with an experience that they are not going to encounter otherwise. Often, it is expensive and difficult for campers to experience trips that involve adventurous camping activities- canoeing, kayaking, white-water rafting, rock climbing, etc.- as a family or part of a small group. Our goal, then, is to offer an experience where campers can have these sorts of activities while also experiencing the summer camp program at Camp Lake Stephens. These camps, however, are not for the faint of heart. They are more intense, both physically and mentally, and encourage our campers to reach for new levels within themselves. Because of the outdoor nature of our Adventure Camps, we recommend that campers comfortable with a more rustic experience attend. Campers will cook most of their meals over an outdoor fire, while doing activity preparation during the week. This preparation includes high ropes, low ropes, canoe training, emergency procedures training, hiking, and packing.
White-Water Rafting:Our White-Water Rafting Adventure Camps will take place on the Ocoee River in Ocoee, Tennessee. The first two days of the rafting week will be spent here at Camp Lake Stephens, where the campers will reside in our treehouses. During this time, campers will hone their rafting skills by going through training here at camp before departing for the river. Leaving on Wednesday, our campers will travel to the Ocoee, where they will spend time rafting and staying in a lodge provided by Whitewater Express. Campers love this adventure camp for its fast-paced quality, as well as the opportunity to work together as a group in the raft on the river.
